2010 Cannonball Run "Route 66 Rundown" build thread

Cannonball Run 2010, Route 66 Rundown.

THIS IS THE OFFICIAL BUILD THREAD

This year? Chicago to LA!  2000 miles all the way!We will be starting in Chicago and racing to LA ... along Route 66.Sure there are faster ways to get from Chicago to LA than The Mother Road? but where is the fun or challenge in that?

Spirit of Route 66

This is what we are really here for.  The soul of what makes ?Car Guys?.  (Guys used in a generic non-gender way).  The time the drive takes is secondary to the drive itself.  We drive because we can, not because we have to.  We would, and often do, drive just to drive.  The growl of the engine.  The whistle of turbo chargers.  The pounding of wind from open windows and open tops.  A two lane road instead of 4 or 6 or more lanes.  In our world the shortest distance between two points probably isn?t a straight line.  First, we don?t care about shortest distance.  Second, we give ourselves bonus points based on ?out of the way factor? like style points in ski jumping.

So in this race that is exactly what we are doing.  There will always be a guy that just wants to get there fast.  For the rest of us it?s bonus points for every city you stop in along the Old Road, Route 66.  There are plenty of ?bannered? roads and markings of the original route.  Guides books and other ways we can plot our routes.  Plus the cities from the song:Chicago, LA, St. Louie, down to Missouri, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Gallup - New Mexico, Flagstaff ? Arizona, Winona, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino. So that is the idea...pick your route and build your car accordingly.  RULES, Details, etc.  Like last year you can start at any time.  You will need to post pictures of the UNSTARTED kit to be an entrant.  Builds will need to be finished before December 1st.  At that time I will build a poll and the public will pick the winner. You don?t have to say what route you will be taking.  It?s just something to think about while you plan and build.

Now to the benches!  Have fun and post lots of build pictures!
