So, I've been trying like crazy to find the 1950 chevy 3100, or a "2-ton" version of the same cab/front end. No dice. So now I have turned to using a much more readily available model, the revell 1/25 1950 Ford F1. The basic premise was an old school truck on newer semi-wheels and tires, with a "rat-rod" (i truly don't like this word, but its the best description) style truck. Bare minimum here, axles, big honkin engine, and lots of attitude. My problem is that I'm really at odds with how the custom chassis I've built so far looks. So, here are some pictures to get your opinions on. keep in mind that this is at the very early stages of building, the only glued together part are the frame rails. The Front end will be a suicide style setup with custom made wishbones, ie; the front axle will be pushed further forward. At the moment, it's just there to hold the chassis at ride height.
the original idea:
The modified idea so far:
Oh, ignore the unholy mess on my desk. I've yet to clean it since starting this build. :-P
edit: on another note, I'm starting to think that the fact that I don't have the fenders/hood/running boards on there is making the cab look extremely small. But, thankfully the F1 kit isn't discontinued. So, for this first go around, I think I should try to widen and lengthen the fenders and hood. seems to be the best way to make it all look proportional.

A few weeks ago, German tuner 9ff unveiled the GTurbo tuning package, but while the most powerful version developed 1,000 HP, 9ff pulled the GTurbo 1200 straight out of a hat during the Essen Motorshow. For those not packing much common sense, that’s a model developing a spectacular 1,200 HP.
The GTurbo 1200 is based on a Porsche GT2 model, but is modified to be made lighter. There are a series of carbon fiber elements, along side and rear windows that have been replaced by Macrolon items. There is also a new set of 19" wheels.
After 9ff added titanium connecting rods, 9ff cylinder head with bigger valves and ports, 9ff camshafts, and 130mm intercoolers, the twin-turbo engine now develops an impressive 1200 HP and 1100 NM of torque. The car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and will hit an impressive 257 mph. The whole package is finished by a new titanium exhaust system that has adjustable valves for a quiet, sportier sound. The car is currently available for sale at a price of 219,000 euro (around $285,000).
Specifications after the jump.

The 1993 Portuguese Grand Prix is a fascinating race, not only for the action on the track, but also for the fact that it has something of a fin de sicle feeling about it.
It was an event that, in hindsight, seems to encapsulate the passing of the torch from one generation to the next.
It was the race at which the great Alain Prost clinched his fourth, and final, world championship title, and at which he announced his retirement, not willing to go toe-to-toe again with Ayrton Senna, who had signed to drive in 1994 for Williams, where Prost drove in 1993.
The Frenchman won the title by finishing second to an emerging star called Michael Schumacher. The German's Benetton was slower than Prost's Williams but Schumacher defended his lead with all the lack of compromise for which he was to become notorious in future years.
Meanwhile, McLaren gave a debut to another promising talent, a certain Mika Hakkinen.
The Finn would go on to win two world titles in 1998 and 1999, becoming the man to push Schumacher hardest until the emergence of Fernando Alonso, but was, at this stage of his career, McLaren's test driver.
Hakkinen had driven for struggling Lotus in 1991-2, but moved to McLaren in a downgraded role in 1993 on the promise of being given a chance to race at some stage.
That chance came in Portugal, after team boss Ron Dennis had grown frustrated by the continuing struggles of Michael Andretti.
Hakkinen wowed F1 by outqualifying Senna on his debut. The great Brazilian was very far from amused.
Senna wasted no time in dispensing with Hakkinen in the race, but the Finn had made his point - this was a special talent awaiting the chance to blossom.
So, it is a superb race, laden with symbolism.
As I explained in my blog on Tuesday, though, all the choices this time were great in their own way.
There was a victory by the incomparable Gilles Villeneuve at Watkins Glen in 1979, his final win in a year that established him as the finest driver in the world, following a battle with Alan Jones of Williams, whose race ended when he accelerated away from a tyre stop too soon and he lost a wheel.
And in Portugal in 1988, there is one of the defining episodes in the bitter battle between Prost and Senna, when Senna pushed Prost so close to the pit wall in trying to defend the lead that those holding signalling boards had to move them out of the way.
Finally, there is a fight between team-mates in a great car, with Riccardo Patrese getting the better of Williams team-mate Nigel Mansell in the 1991 Mexican Grand Prix despite the Italian suffering from a stomach upset.
I hope you enjoy them.

Audi is tossing out a line in the shape of a new concept car to see whether or not its customers will bite. This new concept is called the GT4 and is based on the TT sports model. Production for the GT4 concept is planned for the 2012 model year with sales starting at 120,000 Euro on both European and Asian markets.
The TT GT4 features a motorsport body with a roll-over cage and a safety-optimized fuel tank box, as well as other modifications appropriate for an affordable motorsport vehicle. The exterior sees the front apron, rear apron, and the rear wing borrowed from the Audi TT RS. The new hood, doors, and trunk lid are all made of CFRP while the windows are made of plastic.
Audi has equipped the GT4 with a TFSI engine producing about 340hp. This is handled by an S-tronic transmission with a differential lock and a modified production suspension with adjustable dampers. The vehicle is finished off with 9.5 x 18 inch light alloy wheels.
Press release after the jump.

The 27-year-old finished 11th in the drivers' championship in the season just finished with 47 points, and his best finish was a fifth place at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Sutil had been linked with a move elsewhere for 2011 but his manager, Manfred Zimmerman, says a "fundamental agreement" for next year is already in place.
